New PV installed capacity in the second quarter reaches 742MW in the US

According to a report by the US Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the new PV capacity installed in the second quarter of 2012 has reached 742MW in the US, thanks in part to the completion of more than 20 large-scale projects for utilities. The projects represent 447 MW of the total new installations. The second-quarter capacity represents a 116-percent growth compared to the same period in 2011 and a 45-percent growth compared to the first quarter of 2012. According to the report, the US’ cumulative PV capacity has now topped 5.2GW. However, the report also states that procurement of new utility-scale projects has slowed down, because utilities in states where they are required to produce a certain percentage of their power from renewable sources have largely met those requirements for now. This leaves »some earlier-stage projects in limbo as developers turn their attention to more promising prospects,« the report states. Source: Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA);
